Traditions
Our wedding is a celebration not just of our love, but of our roots. Throughout the day (and night!), you’ll see touches of our Scottish and Jewish heritage. Some joyful, some symbolic, all meaningful.
The Hora
Get ready to be lifted - literally! During the reception, we'll celebrate with the Hora, a traditional Jewish dance where the couple is hoisted on chairs while guests dance in circles around them to the lively sounds of Hava Nagila. Expect laughter, slight chaos, and lots of love.
Breaking the Glass
At the end of the ceremony, Callum will break a glass - a meaningful Jewish tradition symbolizing the fragility of life, the balance of joy and sorrow, and the lasting commitment of marriage. As it shatters, join us in shouting “Mazel Tov!” - a joyful way to say congratulations and kick off the celebration.
Loch Lomond
As the final song of the night, we’ll all gather to sing and sway (or stomp!) to “Loch Lomond”, a beloved Scottish anthem. It’s a powerful, emotional moment that brings everyone together - and yes, jumping is encouraged.
Handfasting
During our ceremony, we’ll include a handfasting ritual, a Celtic tradition where our hands will be gently bound together with a strip of Guthrie tartan - a symbol of unity, commitment, and connection to Scottish heritage. It’s a beautiful nod to our roots and the origin of the phrase “tying the knot.”
